In 2014, the government of BC declared October RDSP Awareness Month to help raise awareness about the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP). The RDSP is the world’s first savings plan specifically designed for people with disabilities.

Even with little to no personal contributions, you may be eligible to receive significant government grants and bonds to help you save for your future through the RDSP

Access RDSP can help

Access RDSP is a partnership between Plan Institute, BC Aboriginal Network on Disability Society (BCANDS), and Disability Alliance BC (DABC). We provide free support and resources on the RDSP, every step of the way. BCANDS offers Indigenous-specific navigation through the process.

Our goal is to ensure that every eligible person has an RDSP to help them save for the future, but unfortunately, we know this isn’t the case. Even with the financial security that it can provide, many people who qualify still don’t have an RDSP. Of the people who are approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and could open an RDSP right now, only 31.5% of have an RDSP.

Many people do not know that they would qualify for the DTC and RDSP. If you have severe daily restrictions in any of the following sections (even just one), you could qualify:

  • Vision
  • Walking
  • Feeding
  • Speaking
  • Hearing
  • Eliminating
  • Dressing
  • Mental Functions necessary for everyday life
