CHARLOTTETOWN –Opposition Finance Critic James Aylward is calling on the Ghiz government to make benefits under the Registered Disabilities Savings Plan (RDSP) exempt from claw-back.

During the 2012 Fall Legislature, government members unanimously supported a PC Opposition motion calling for this exemption. Aylward wants Treasurer Wes Sheridan to live up to his government’s commitment.

“The funds from the RDSP are important in ensuring a person with a disability lives with dignity,” said Aylward. “Without this exemption, a considerable portion of these savings may be lost.”

Aylward added that Prince Edward Island is the only province in Canada where RDSP benefits are not fully exempt. He stressed the importance of Sheridan taking immediate action and committed that he and the PC Caucus will continue to pressure government to implement this important exemption.
